Remembering Jeanne Bruno

With a heavy heart, the Newcomb Alumnae Association and Newcomb Institute announce the peaceful passing of cherished alumna Jeanne Antoinette Fernandez Bruno, on Wednesday, September 6, 2023.
Jeanne's life was a beautiful tapestry of passion, dedication, and generosity that left an indelible mark on the community.

Jeanne graduated from Newcomb College in 1947, when she received her Bachelor of Arts degree. After her graduation, she continued to support the College as a dedicated and loyal volunteer.

Ballet was Jeanne's lifelong passion, and she was an accomplished ballerina. Her summers at the prestigious School of American Ballet in New York City were transformative, and she graced the stages of New Orleans as a soloist in productions by the New Orleans Opera House Association and the Summer Pops. Jeanne's love for ballet even took her to Bogotá, Colombia, where she performed and shared her knowledge as a ballet instructor.

While Jeanne served her country as a dedicated Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) member for over a decade, her heart always belonged to the arts. She redirected her creative energy and boundless enthusiasm to enriching lives in New Orleans and beyond. Her volunteer efforts extended over five decades, benefiting organizations like the New Orleans Philharmonic Symphony, Delta Festival Ballet, Odyssey House, New Orleans Opera Association, NOCCA, and many more.
Jeanne Antoinette Fernandez Bruno will be greatly missed, but her legacy of love for the arts, dedication to the community, and boundless warmth will forever inspire us.

Mrs. Bruno served as a liaison between the Newcomb Alumnae Office and the community at Lambeth House for over a decade, organizing teas, luncheons and other events in support of connection with her alma mater.

A celebration of Jeanne's life will occur at Lambeth House, a community that held a special place in her heart. More information to come on this celebration.
