Lauren Lee Pettiette Schewel, (LA '09)

Biography

Lauren Lee is honored to be the Bylaws and OPP Manager of the Newcomb Alumnae Association. Lauren Lee is a native Louisianan bursting with generosity and joie de vivre. A part of the “Katrina Class” at Newcomb, she was an active student leader, a NCCA cheerleader, a Chi Omega, and a part of the last graduating class of Newcomb. After college, Lauren Lee taught third grade in Baker, LA through Teach For America (TFA). Then, she graduated from the University of Miami School of Law as a HOPE Public Interest Scholar where she was involved in clinics, building afterschool programs, was selected to be in Iron Arrow (“the highest honor attained”), and later, selected to the inaugural class of the entire University’s 30 Under 30.

At her heart, Lauren Lee is a fierce advocate, educator, and mom committed to ensuring every child feels loved, successful, and unstoppable. She currently works for HeartShare St. Vincent’s Services (HSVS) of Brooklyn. NY as their Alumni Engagement Manager in charge of budling their alumni program and recruiting and engaging former youth in foster care to create a network of pride, opportunity, and family.

Lauren Lee now lives in Durham, NC with Abraham, her husband, and their daughter. In Durham, Lauren Lee serves as Chair of LIFE Skills, is involved at Immaculate Conception Church, on the Participatory Budgeting Steering Committee, and on the Lupus Foundation Association of North Carolina. In 2017, Lauren was diagnosed with lupus, and she is an active advocate for people living with invisible and other disabilities. Her newest passion is ballroom dancing, and believes that on any given day, “just dance—(it’s) gonna be okay.”
