Denise Butler (NC '75)

Biography

Denise holds a BS degree in Biology/Geology Newcomb ’75 and MS degree in Geology, Tulane University ’84. She has 34 years of professional experience in the oil and gas industry focusing on upstream exploration and production. She held positions at SOHIO, BP and Pennzoil in both domestic and international exploration and development. At Shell Exploration & Production Company, her most recent positions were in New Ventures Basin Business Analysis Group and Exploration Geoscience Discipline Lead, providing functional leadership for exploration geoscientists in North and South America. In 2016, she retired from Shell in Houston, TX.  Denise is currently active in several international oil and gas professional and academic societies. She serves on the Advisory Council for the University of Texas, Jackson School of Geosciences, Advisory Council for the Newcomb College Institute, GeoFORCE Houston and Executive Comittee for GeoFORCE Alaska.  Denise currently resides in Houston, Texas and splits her time between Houston and Fredericksburg, TX.
